Google Might Launch Battery Health Feature for Android Devices

Google appears to be developing a new function that will enable Android users to monitor their battery health. Apple, the tech giant’s competitor, already offers a Battery Health feature for its iPhone lineup.

In case you didn’t know, Google incorporated a “battery information” section within the About Phone area of Settings for Pixel users in the most recent Pixel Feature Drop update of December 2023. This section presents details such as the battery’s manufacturing date and the device’s cycle count.

Moreover, Google introduced numerous enhancements in Android 14, delivering additional valuable data regarding the phone’s battery like the date of initial usage, charging policy, charging status, and present health condition.

Although these features seem intriguing, Google aims to expand upon them by creating a distinct “battery health feature” page. Mishaal Rahman, an Android expert, discovered this concealed page in the latest version of the Settings Services app for Android 14 QPR2 Beta 2 build which informs users about their device’s battery status.

In an article he penned for Android Authority, Rahman revealed that while the new battery health page does not currently display the exact health condition, it does caution users that “batteries degrade over time and last fewer hours between charges.”

Additionally, the report indicates that “strings within the APK propose that this page will depict the ‘approximated percentage of charge the battery can currently hold compared to when it was new’ (i.e. state of health) both before and after ‘recalibration’ of the battery.”

Furthermore, the report mentions that users will receive “tips” via the Settings app when their battery capacity is deteriorating or undetectable so they won’t need to manually check the “battery health” page. This feature simplifies monitoring battery life for Android device users.

Currently being developed, there is no official confirmation regarding when this battery health feature will become accessible to Android users.
