The Workings of the Reportedly Under Development WhatsApp Verified Channel Badge Feature
Code discovered on the most recent beta version of WhatsApp by a feature tracker indicates that the company is working on enabling companies to show a verification badge on their channels. The messaging platform’s verification mark display is being modified by the corporation. Eventually, the current green badges on WhatsApp are likely to give way to blue verified checkmarks, which are now used on Facebook and Instagram.
The “verified channel” feature was detected by WABetaInfo on the WhatsApp beta for Android 2.24.1.18 update, which is being distributed to testers who have enrolled in the Android app’s beta program. This specific function is still under development, unlike other features currently being tested on the platform. It will likely be introduced to beta testers first before being rolled out to all users through the stable channel.
An image shared by the feature tracker displays the potential interface for this new verified channel function. Targeted at WhatsApp Business users, it would let them show their verified badge on a newly created channel for their enterprise. The company previously stated that businesses could subscribe to parent company Meta’s Verified service and obtain a verified tick mark on their profile.
Notably, adding a verified badge to a channel will immediately alter its existing name and profile picture based on WABetaInfo’s leaked screenshot, using your verified business information instead – a preview is also displayed, illustrating how your channel image, name, and verified badge will be presented. If you wish to alter your channel’s photo, you’ll need to make those adjustments in your business profile as per the screenshot.
To display a verified tick mark, businesses will supposedly require a Meta Verified subscription according to WABetaInfo. Individual users and non-business accounts won’t be able to add such verification to channels based on insights from the feature tracker. However, given that WhatsApp hasn’t officially announced any plans concerning verification marks for channels, it’s advisable to treat these claims cautiously.
